4 Reasons Why ‘Thank You’ Should Be Your Daily Mantra



How often do you thank people? How often do you find yourself feeling and being thankful for experiences, feelings, and the people around you?


It’s very easy to fall into a pattern of negativity in life. I know – I’ve done it. But a strange thing happens when you make the effort to be more thankful, and to give thanks more often. There are many ways to do this – through meditation, prayer, and simply being ‘in the moment’ by practising mindfulness. Do whatever works for you, and whatever makes sense in your life.

If you need or want some good reasons why ‘thank you’ should be the two words you include in every day of your life, I’ve got some here for you. As you begin to adopt these two simple words as your daily mantra, you may well discover more positive reasons for including them. You never know – it could inspire others to do the same, too.

1: THANKING OTHER PEOPLE IS A GREAT WAY TO SPREAD POSITIVITY
Stop for a moment. How do you feel when you are in a negative mindset? I’m guessing it’s not a pretty picture. Now, set that aside and think about how you feel when you have a positive mindset. If someone was to thank you now for something you did for them, which mindset would that put you into? No prizes for guessing the answer!

When you are thankful, and you make the effort to thank others for things they do, it spreads positivity. The universe also tends to repay us in kind. You may have heard of the Law of Attraction, and it applies here, too. If we are positive, we feel more positive and attract more positive things into our lives. Try it and see.

2: BEING THANKFUL FOR WHAT WE HAVE IS BETTER THAN FOCUSING ON WHAT WE DON’T HAVE
Do you ever think of all the things you wish you had? Focusing on this part of your life – the part you feel is lacking – brings you into a negative mindset. In doing so, it brings your attention away from all the things you do have. Being thankful for those things will make you feel far happier and more settled than focusing on things you don’t have in your life. This has a major knock-on effect – emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

Notice I said, ‘the part you feel is lacking’, too. We put major expectations on ourselves and what we assume we should have or be. If we focus on the positives in our lives, instead of always striving to get more, it can be a major surprise to see how happy it makes us.

3: SAYING ‘THANK YOU’ BRINGS US INTO THE MOMENT
When we thank someone for the coffee they have just served us in a café, we are appreciating their time and the drink they have made. When we thank someone for sending us a card, we are acknowledging how positive and loved it made us feel.

In short, those two words automatically make us focus on that moment in our life, and whatever it is we are grateful for. Notice how you feel the next time you thank someone for something. You can’t help but feel more positive, can you?

4: IT FOCUSES THE MIND ON BEING THANKFUL FOR THE LITTLE THINGS WE SO OFTEN MISS
Try it today – try saying ‘thank you’ more often than you usually would. Don’t feel guilty at all the occasions in the past where you should have thanked someone but didn’t. Begin today and see how it focuses your mind on that moment. This is a great way to dive into mindfulness, too.

The only moment we can guarantee we have is the one we are living right now. Appreciating that moment by making the most of it – and by being thankful for it – is amazingly calming for the mind. Being thankful is a superb way to reduce stress, feel happier, and really see the world around you, too.

Say thank you more often – to people, and to the world around you
That may sound slightly daft, but you’ll be amazed at how those two little words help you reframe your mind and feel better, happier, and more settled in your life.

Think of those two words and use them as your mantra for just one day. I guarantee you won’t want to give up after the day is over once you see how positive and life-affirming they are. You will begin to notice changes happening – positive changes – and that is perhaps the biggest thing of all to be thankful for.
