Is it time to upgrade your Wellness Routine? Here's How…
What does your wellness routine look like? Maybe it’s time to make a few changes; try something new like a regular yoga class, more fresh food or simply enjoying a few minutes to yourself at the end of your day.
These small actions not only boost our health but they make us feel nurtured - and I don’t know about you but that always makes me feel happier too.
So, whether you need to start sprinkling a few wellness habits into your day or you want to upgrade your current routine, I wanted to share a simple process that helps me to get my mindset in order. Because when your mind is on board, it makes wellness habits so much easier to stick to...
ACKNOWLEDGE WHERE YOU ARE: It’s easy to start this process by berating yourself for all the things that you’re not doing and feel overwhelmed by the number of changes you want to make. But, making yourself feel worse isn’t the intention. Acknowledge where you are, let go of past decisions and get ready to move forward.
MAKE A COMMITMENT TO YOURSELF: Before starting anything new, I think that it’s important to make a commitment to yourself because let’s be honest motivation can be fickle and it doesn’t always show up when you need it most. Staying connected to your reason why will give what you need to get going even when your motivation has left the building!
So, take some time to think about the new wellness habits that you’d like to start, how would they make you feel and why are they important to you? How often can you commit to doing your new habit - be sure to be realistic about the time you have so that you set yourself up for success. Then, write these thoughts down and read them on those more challenging days.
SET A TARGET: We can’t reach a destination if we don’t know where we’re heading and so set yourself a target. If you’re anything like me then you’ll be tempted to go overboard and set yourself 10 targets, convinced that you can achieve them all. This is the easiest route to failure. Start small, choose one or 2 things that you can make real progress on first and see how much better they make you feel. Here are a few ideas…
- Remove something toxic from your diet.
- Swap skincare for all natural alternatives.
- Find 10 minutes every day to get outside.
- Use the natural pauses in your day to reconnect.
- Try a new form of exercise; something that you enjoy.
- Start Meditating (here’s more about making meditation your new wellness habit)
TRACK YOUR PROGRESS: Keep your motivation going with this simple tip - and my 30 day wellness habit tracker which you’re welcome to print yourself a copy of. Make a note of every day that you take a step towards creating a wellness routine that boosts your health and happiness. Spark daily motivation by keeping your habit tracker somewhere that you can see it.
CELEBRATE: When you reach a goal - no matter how small - be sure to celebrate. How you do this is up to you, it could be a trip to your favourite place, a quiet afternoon to relax, fresh flowers or a gift to yourself to represent the progress that you’re making.
So, that’s how I approach upgrading my wellness plan. I go through this process every month to make sure that I’m moving forward and that my own needs haven’t been left behind. I encourage you to do the same and get started today on creating a wellness routine that boosts your health and happiness.
